The taxpayer as guinea pig – for once in a positive sense

The FTA has been saying for a long time that the VAT return can be submitted electronically. Now it’s getting serious: a pilot project is being launched. For the return for the 4th quarter all taxpayers in Zone 1 (that is the cantons Basel, Solothurn, Thurgau and Uri) are being given the possibility of submitting their quarterly return electronically. A long cherished desire will at last be realised. But during the test phase taxpayers will still have the possibility of submitting their return in paper form. It can be expected that in 2015 the trial will be extended to the whole of Switzerland, assuming of course that no technical problems arise.
